How I Stay Sane as a Mom — My Simple Daily Reset Routine

I’m not a morning person. I don’t have a 5am routine. I don’t journal for an hour before the house wakes up.

But I do have a reset routine — and it’s the reason I don’t completely lose myself in the chaos of motherhood.

Here’s what it looks like.

Morning — 10 minutes before the day starts

Before I pick up my phone, I drink a glass of water and take three slow breaths. That’s it. It sounds too simple, but starting the day without immediately reacting to notifications genuinely changes my mood for hours.

Midday — The 5-minute check-in

Somewhere between lunch and the afternoon, I ask myself three questions:

  • How am I actually feeling right now?
  • Have I eaten a real meal today?
  • What’s one thing I can let go of today?

It takes five minutes. It stops the spiral before it starts.

Afternoon — Movement, even tiny

A 10-minute walk outside. Stretching while the baby naps. Dancing in the kitchen while I cook. Something that gets me out of my head and back into my body.

Evening — The shutdown ritual

Before bed, I do three things:

  1. Tidy one surface (just one)
  2. Write down tomorrow’s top three tasks
  3. Name one good thing from the day

It takes less than 15 minutes and I sleep so much better for it.

The secret?

None of this is perfect. Some days I skip all of it. But having a routine to come back to — even partially — means I always have a way to reset.

You don’t need a perfect self-care routine. You just need small anchors that bring you back to yourself.

What does your reset look like? I’d love to know. 🤍
