The first trimester is often called the “silent” phase of pregnancy — but for most moms, it’s anything but quiet on the inside.
Here are 10 honest things nobody really prepares you for:

1. The exhaustion hits differently This isn’t regular tired. This is “fell asleep sitting up at 7pm” tired. Your body is building an entire human — rest without guilt.
2. Morning sickness doesn’t only happen in the morning It can strike at noon, 3pm, or 2am. Keep crackers on your nightstand and ginger tea within reach.
3. You might not feel pregnant yet — and that’s okay No bump, no kicks. Just nausea and fatigue. It’s normal to feel disconnected from the experience at first.
4. Food aversions can be brutal Foods you used to love might suddenly repulse you. Go with it. Eat whatever you can keep down.
5. Your emotions will surprise you Crying at a commercial? Completely normal. Hormones are doing a lot of heavy lifting right now.
6. Bloating before the bump You might look 4 months pregnant from bloating alone in week 6. Loose clothes are your best friend.
7. The anxiety is real Especially before your first ultrasound. Give yourself grace — worrying means you already love this baby so much.
8. Some days you’ll forget you’re pregnant And then feel guilty about it. You’re not a bad mom. You’re just human.
9. Telling people is harder than you think Whether you tell early or wait — there’s no perfect timing. Do what feels right for you.
10. You’re already doing an amazing job Growing a human is extraordinary work, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
Which of these surprised you the most? Drop it in the comments — I’d love to hear your first trimester story. 🤍
